Dr. Merdod Ghafouri is a founding member of Virginia Cardiovascular Associates and has been in private practice since 1999. He is an active staff member at Inova Heart & Vascular Institute at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Prince William Hospital and Fauquier Hospital. Dr. Ghafouri is currently Vice Chairman of Peer Review and a member of the credentialing committee at Prince William Hospital, where he also serves as Director of the Department of Cardiology. He was nominated as one of the areas "Top Cardiologists" by Washingtonian Magazine in 2008 and 2010, and has been recognized by the International Association of Health Care Professionals and by Consumer News and World Reports as a leading cardiologist in Northern Virginia.

Dr. Ghafouri obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology from University of Texas and completed his medical degree, internship and residency in internal medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His fellowship in cardiovascular disease was completed at William Beaumont Hospital. Prior to moving to Virginia, he was an associate clinical professor of internal medicine and cardiology at Michigan State University.

Dr. Ghafouri is the Director and Chairman of the Annual Cardiology Symposium held in Manassas, VA, which is dedicated to educating primary care physicians and other cardiologist in new treatments and advances in cardiovascular disease. His special interests include prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease, lipid abnormalities, hypertension and heart disease in women. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Diseases and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
