Shawn Yazdani, MD, FACC, FSCAI
Board Certification(s):Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and Nuclear Cardiology
Medical School: New York University School of Medicine
Internship: Columbia Presbyterian Hospital
Residency: Columbia University
Fellowship: Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Cardiology; Mount Sinai Hospital, Interventional CardiologyA founding member of Virginia Cardiovascular Associates, Dr. Yazdani completed his Interventional Cardiology training at Mount Sinai Hospital. During this time he was able to perform many complex interventions with some of the leading physicians in the field making him competent not only in balloon angioplasty and stent placement but also rotational and directional atherectomy, angiojet thrombectomy as well as balloon valvuloplasty. Upon completion of his training he joined a private cardiology group in Leigh High Valley where he practiced for two years. During his time at Leigh High Valley, he expanded his skills to include permanent pace maker implantation as well as peripheral vascular arterial angiography and intervention. In 2000, he moved to Northern Virginia to be closer his family.
Throughout the years, Dr Yazdani's interest has varied as our knowledge of cardiovascular disease has expanded. Once it became clear that sleep apnea is prevalent as well as deleterious in many cardiac conditions including congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and stroke as well as many arrhythmias, he was instrumental in incorporating detection and treatment of sleep apnea as part of the comprehensive cardiac care at VCA. More recently, Dr. Yazdani became interested in transradial approach to coronary angiography and intervention. He now performs the majority of his cases through the radial approach. His transradial experience is unmatched in Northern Virginia. Currently, Dr. Yazdani is pursuing his interest in diagnosis and treatment of venous disease as well structural heart disease specifically, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.
Dr. Yazdani is married and has three children. In his free time, he enjoys reading, cooking, traveling and skiing.
